THE UNCONSCIOUS

The Unconscious

Alongside her investigations into Colombian society and history, Mónica López Pinzón explores another territory: the inner world.

Her work often approaches the unconscious not as an abstract concept but as a landscape — a space where memory, perception, and emotion take visual form. Drawing, painting, and reflective surfaces become tools for navigating this interior terrain.

Invitation to the Inner World

Graphite and gold leaf on paper
27 × 35 cm

In this drawing, a female figure is surrounded by gold leaf, creating a luminous field that functions less as background than as a threshold. The work proposes introspection as a form of resistance — an invitation to turn inward in order to understand the forces that shape the outer world.

Landscape Studies

During this period, López Pinzón was also exploring the traditional genres of painting — still life, landscape, and the human figure. The first landscapes emerged from this investigation, situating her work within the long history of painting while continuing to explore perception and environment.
