In Skies of Bogotá, Mónica López Pinzón approaches the sky as a field of perception rather than a landscape. The works isolate subtle shifts of color and atmosphere, translating the experience of looking upward into quiet, contemplative surfaces.
The paintings are built through successive thin layers of acrylic applied while the canvas lies horizontally on the studio floor. The linen surface is sealed with gesso, carefully sanded, and then combined with gold leaf and paint to create a controlled luminosity in which color and metal interact through light.
By reducing the image to gradients of color and atmosphere, López Pinzón reframes the sky as a shared spatial experience. The work invites a moment of pause — a shift in scale that recalls the physical act of looking upward, where the sky becomes less a boundary than a permeable field of light.
